IMPORTANT: When operating a Mercury MerCruiser engine on gasoline containing
alcohol, do not store the gasoline in the fuel tank for long periods. Whereas cars normally
consume alcoholāblend fuels before they can absorb enough moisture to cause trouble,
boats often sit idle long enough for phase separation to take place. In addition, internal
corrosion may take place during storage if alcohol has washed protective oil films from
internal components.
Engine Oil
To help obtain optimum engine performance and to provide maximum protection, we
recommend using the following oil:

All MerCruiser engines Mercury MerCruiser FullāSynthetic Engine Oil, 20Wā40, NMMA FCāW rated
If the Mercury MerCruiser FullāSynthetic, 20Wā40 oil is unavailable, you can use the
following lubricants, listed in order of recommendation:
1. Mercury/Quicksilver 25Wā40 Synthetic Blend, NMMA FCāWārated 4ācycle MerCruiser
oil
2. Mercury/Quicksilver 25Wā40, NMMA FCāWārated 4ācycle MerCruiser oil
3. Other recognized brands of NMMA FCāWārated 4ācycle oils
4. A goodāgrade, straightāweight detergent automotive oil per the operating chart below.
NOTE: We do not recommend nonādetergent oils, multiāviscosity oils (other than as
specified), non FCāWārated synthetic oils, lowāquality oils, or oils that contain solid
additives.
