Intermediate Shaft Assembly
1. Slide the retaining ring onto the intermediate shaft using a press
and plate until it is seated in the groove. Figure 7.9.

2. Press the bearing cups into the under drive gear. Figure 7.10.

3. Place the clutch gear onto the shaft with the groove facing the
retaining ring and the small end of the shaft. Figure 7.11.

4. Place a heated front bearing cone onto the large end of the shaft
followed by the bearing spacer, underdrive gear assembly, and
rear bearing cone in the order shown below. Figure 7.12.

5. Install the End Play Setup Tool (see page 58) and bearing lock
nut onto the shaft and torque to specifi cations. Measure the end
play using a dial indicator as shown below. Place the indicator
stand base on the gear face. Figure 7.13.
