Do you have a question about the Mirion Technologies LDM 320 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Mirion Technologies LDM 320 is a hands-free reader designed to interface with a centralized dosimetry system (such as DOSICARE, DOSISERV, and SENTINEL) or configuration software (like DMCUser). It facilitates communication with DMC 2000, DMC 3000, and SOR dosimeters. The device connects to a PC via a USB port and is available in two versions: a desk version (LDM 320D) and a wall-mount version (LDM 320W).

Function Description:

The LDM 320 operates as an interface hardware, enabling a PC to communicate with personal dosimeters. Its primary functions include:

  • Dosimeter Configuration: Used in an "Office" setting to configure dosimeters and retrieve stored measurements and event histories.
  • Access Control: In "Access control" applications, the reader identifies presented dosimeters, checks their condition, switches them to "Measurement" (Run) mode upon entry to an area, and to "Pause" mode upon exit. It also retrieves essential data such as doses and dose rates.
  • Operating Modes: The reader supports several operating modes, switchable via computer:
    • Normal Operating Mode: The reader acts as a slave to the PC, retrieving commands, searching for dosimeters, executing commands (reading/writing dosimeter information or parameters), and sending reports to the PC.
    • Specific Mode: Reserved for specific autonomous applications.
    • Test Modes: Intended for factory use to check reader integrity, including "Antenna tuning," "AGC programmable amplifier," "Autonomous," and "MMI and digital input/output" test modes.
    • Downloading and Programming Mode: Used for updating reader firmware (factory use only).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power: Powered by the USB port, operating between 4.15V and 5.25V.
  • Communication: Utilizes RFID Dosimeter Communication at a frequency of 125 kHz.
  • Environmental Conditions:
    • Operating Temperature: 0 to +50°C
    • Storage Temperature: -10°C to +60°C
    • Relative Humidity (without condensation): 90%
  • Ingress Protection (IP) Rating:
    • LDM 320D: IP52
    • LDM 320W: IP30
  • Physical Characteristics:
    • LDM 320D (Desk Version):
      • Length: 109 mm
      • Width: 100 mm
      • Depth: 29 mm
      • Weight: 150 grams
      • PC to reader cable length: 2 m
    • LDM 320W (Wall-Mount Version):
      • Length: 157 mm
      • Width: 99 mm
      • Depth: 75 mm
      • Weight: 400 grams
  • Compliance: Conforms to CE requirements.
  • Extension Connector (J4): Provides digital inputs and outputs (3V3 digital type) for software control, including:
    • GND (Pins 1, 12, 14, 20, 22, 24)
    • INPUT Digital Input (Pins 2, 3, 5, 7, 15)
    • OUTPUT Digital Output (Pins 4, 6, 8, 10)
    • 3V3 (Pin 9, 19)
    • 5V (Pin 11, 13)
    • Spare for ext. pwr sply (Pin 16)
    • Spare for RX-LDM (Pins 17, 18)
    • Spare for analog input (Pins 21, 23)
    • Spare for external antenna (PWR4A, PWR4B) (Pins 25, 26)

Usage Features:

  • Installation:
    • LDM 320D: Simply placed on a desk and connected to a PC via USB.
    • LDM 320W: Requires wall-mounting using a support plate. The USB cable can be routed behind the reader through a drilled hole or externally through a notch at the bottom.
  • Dosimeter Placement: For the LDM 320D, dosimeters should be placed in the provided notch on the reader. During data exchange, other dosimeters should be kept at least 30 cm away.
  • Compatibility: The LDM 320W sleeve is designed to accommodate DMC 2000, DMC 3000, SOR/R, SOR/T, and IPAM-Tx dosimeters.
  • Multi-Reader Installation (LDM 320W): When wall-mounting multiple LDM 320W readers, a minimum distance of 1 meter is recommended for DMC 2000 dosimeters and 40 cm for DMC 3000 dosimeters. Dosimeter racks should be installed at least 50 cm away from any LDM 320 readers.
  • User Interface: The reader has no stand-alone function and must be connected to a PC running Mirion Technologies software. Three bicolor LEDs provide visual feedback on exchange sequences with the dosimeter:
    • POWER (1): Green indicates power OK; red flashes briefly when receiving a message from the dosimeter; off indicates reader power is off or sending a message.
    • STATUS (2): Depends on the logic of the software.
    • ACCESS (3): Depends on the logic of the software.
  • USB Driver Installation: The USB driver is typically installed automatically by software like DMCUser. Manual installation procedures are provided for Windows XP and Windows Seven, involving uncompressing driver files and guiding the system to the driver location via Device Manager.

Maintenance Features:

  • Failure Analysis and Troubleshooting:
    • No communication with PC: Verify reader power, USB cable connection, and PC port configuration. If the fault persists, contact Mirion Technologies.
    • No data exchange with dosimeter: Eliminate electromagnetic emissions sources, verify reader power.
    • LED power lighting red/allumé rouge (red lit): Indicates the reader is in an error state. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
  • Replacement of Sleeve (LDM 320W): The sleeve can be replaced in case of breakage. Before any maintenance, the LDM must be disconnected from the PC (USB disconnected). The procedure involves removing four side attaching screws and washers (1), separating the reader, removing four more screws and washers (2), and then removing the sleeve. Reassembly is the reverse process, ensuring the sleeve is neatly inserted into the guide before fitting back the screws.
  • Spare Parts:
    • LDM 320D: USB cable (Reference: 127684-SAV).
    • LDM 320W: Case (Body + sleeve) (Reference: 153367-SAV), USB cable (Reference: 127684-SAV).
