Therefore,thereportscanbesentbothinTMOandDMO.SDSUserDenedDataType-4provisionsradiosto
eitheruseSDS-TL(foraddedreliability)ornoSDS-TL(forsavingairinterfaceresources).TheTETRAstandard
ProtocolIdentiersforGPSareused-3forsimpleGPS(noSDS-TL)or131whenSDS-TLisused.Thelocation
dataarestoredinthenon-volatilememoryoftheradio,forlaterretrieval.Iftheradioisprovisionedtoprovideuser
indications,thefeatureoperationalstatusisindicatedontheradiodisplay.
Dependingontheradioconguration,viewingtheradiopositionandthestatusofthevisiblesatellitesisavailable.
Thepositionmayconsistoflongitudeandlatitude,UKeastingsandnorthings,orIrishgridcoordinates.TheGPS
LocationServicefeaturecanbeenabledordisabledasawholeusingtheCPS.Itispossibletocongurethefeature
parametersusingtheCPS,orovertheair.TheCPScongurationprovidesadefaultprole.Thecommands
receivedovertheairmayoverwritethedefaultproleconguration.Theproleassignedtotheradiodetermines
whentosendlocationdata,whatdatatosendwithwhataccuracyandtowhataddress.Alldatarequestsand
congurationcommandsreceivedovertheairarecheckedtoconrmtheyhavecomefromatrustedsource.Only
ISSIsinaspeciedrangemaysendlocationcommands.
Ensurethattheradioandapplicationreceivinglocationmessagesfromtheradiohasbeencongured
withthesameprotocolID.OtherwisetheradioreportsafailurewhenrequestedtosendanImmediate
LocationReport.

4.1EnhancingGPSPerformance
SometimestheGPSfeatureisunabletocompletealocationcalculationsuccessfully.Youhearanaudibletone
indicatingthatyourradiocannotseethesatellites.
Tomaximizetheabilityofyourradiotodeterminealocationxpleasenotethefollowingguidelines:
StayintheopenTheGPSfeatureworksbestwherethereisnothingbetweenyourradioandalargeamount
ofopensky.Ifpossible,gooutside,awayfromtallbuildingsandfoliage.Whiletheperformanceinabuilding
isimprovedbymovingclosertowindows,glasswithcertainsunshieldinglmsmayblocksatellitesignals.
PositionyourradiotoenhancereceptionSignalsfromGPSsatellitesaretransmittedtoyourGPSantenna,
whichisinyourradioantenna.Holdyourradioawayfromyourbody,givingtheantennaclearaccessto
satellitesignals.Donotcovertheantennaareawithyourngersoranythingelse.
StandstillIfpossible,standstilluntilyourradioisnisheddeterminingyourlocation.Movingyour
radioatawalkingpacewhileyourradioiscalculatingyourapproximatelocationmaysubstantiallydecrease
GPSperformance.
