6.2 Component Inspection (After Cleaning and Disinfecting)
WARNING!
• Donotexaminetheapparatusbeforeitisdecontaminated,cleaned,anddisinfectedifthereisariskofexposureto
hazardouscontaminants.Obeytheapplicabledecontaminationprocedures,cleananddisinfecttheapparatusfirst,
thenexamineit.
• Iftheapparatusshowsdamage,deterioration,oranyoftheconditionslistedinthissection,removetheapparatus
fromserviceandreturnittoanMSAtrainedandcertifiedrepairtechnician.
• Neversubstitute,modify,add,oromitparts.Useonlyexactreplacementpartsintheconfigurationasspecifiedby
MSA.
Failure to follow these warnings can result in serious personal injury or death.
1. Inspectthehood.
a. CheckthatthestraphookisattachedtothebottomD-ring.
b. Checkthehoodtobesureyoucanseeclearlythroughit.
c. Checktheelasticneckbandforbreaks.Stretchandreleaseit.Theneck
bandmustspringbackeasily.
d. Checkthehoodinlet:
▪ Checkthatnopartsarebrokenormissing.
▪ Thecovermustbeintactandthediffuserandmufflermustbein
place.

Donotusetheapparatusifanypartsaredamagedormissing.Theapparatusisusedtosustainlifeinhazardous
atmospheres.
