6 Maintaining the Escape Hood
OSHAregulations(29CFR,Part1910.134)requirethattheuserestablishamaintenanceprogram.Thisprogrammust
includecleaninganddisinfecting,componentinspection,andreplacementofwornordamagedparts.
6.1 Cleaning and Disinfecting
WARNING!
Inspecttheapparatusafterithasbeencleanedanddisinfected.Becarefulthatyoudonotbreatheortouchthe
contaminantinhandlingtheapparatusoritsparts.Useequipmentdesignedtoprotectyoufromthespecificcontaminant.
Failure to follow this warning can result in exposure to the contaminant, and cause serious personal injury or
death.
Dependingonthecleaningpolicyadopted,eitheradesignatedpersonortheusershouldcleantheapparatus.ANSI
suggeststhatusersshouldbetrainedinthecleaningprocedure.Preparetheapparatusforcleaningandsanitizingas
follows:
1. Makesurethatthecylindervalveisfullyclosed.
2. Removetheexcesscontaminantfromtheapparatus.
3. Unscrewthehosenutandpullthehosefittingoutofthehoodinlet.
4. Removethemufflerfromthehood.
