Problem Possible cause Countermeasure
Uneven focus.
Nosepiece attached incorrectly. Or its
rotation is not stopped at a click-stop
position.
Attach the nosepiece correctly and rotate
it to a click-stop position.
Specimen not level with stage.
Set the specimen onto the stage
correctly.

Annular diaphragm not centered. Center the annular diaphragm.
Drifting image.
Tilted dia pillar illuminator.
Raise the dia pillar illuminator upright
until it reaches the limit.
NCB11 filter not in optical path. Move the ND filter into the optical path.
Yellow-tinged image.
Lamp voltage too low.
Adjust brightness control knob to match
lamp rating.
ND filter not in optical path. Move the ND filter into the optical path.
Field of view too bright.
Lamp voltage too high.
Lower lamp voltage with the brightness
control knob.
Opening of the aperture diaphragm too
narrow.
Set the aperture diaphragm to 70 to 80%
of the numerical aperture of the objective.
Field diaphragm image not focused on
focal plane of specimen.
Focus and center the condenser
correctly.
Insufficient brightness
in field of view.
Optical path not set to the observation
port.
Use the optical path selector switches
and set the optical path to the
observation port.
