Engine connector at NIRA i7x. When the engine is idling, the voltage is
allowed to vary as much as +/- 15%.
If the voltage swings are greater you will need to decrease the restrictions.
The decrease should result in lesser swings. Avoid using too small restrictions
as this will slows the response time down.
There’s a configurable filter on the MAP input of NIRA i7x. The filter can be
configured using the Advanced setting in NIRA rk. If the pressure variations
are still too large because of significant cam intake and exhaust overlap
(using very aggressive camshafts) NIRA i7x can be set up for Alpha-N
calibration up to a certain MAP (e.g. 70 kPa) and then switch over to speed
density mapping. This is described in detail in a section 5.1.1 below. Being
able to switch between mapping modes like this makes NIRA i7x ideal for use
with highly tuned engines.
3.5 Boost pressure sensor (pre throttle
pressure sensor)
Controlling boost pressure is essential on a turbo charged engine. A great
pressure drop will occur over the throttle body at small throttle angles which
causes even higher pressure before throttle. The high pressure before the
throttle can damage both turbo charger and the piping. To avoid this, NIRA
i7x can be configured to control the boost pressure against the pre throttle
mounted boost pressure sensor.
Mount the sensor in the piping between the charge air cooler and the
throttle body.
3.6 Engine Coolant Temperature
Sensor (ECT)
The ECT sensor is used by NIRA i7x to monitor overall engine temperature
and for cold start enrichment. If you plan on using the ECT sensor that came
with your engine you will need to know or establish its resistance as a
function of temperature. This information is often available in the service
manual for your car. Your NIRA i7x dealer sells an ECT sensor which has been
pre-calibrated in the rk software.
