Problem Possible Cause Corrective Action
4. Pump does not siphon
properly
Siphon hose, rod or strainer
blocked—sucking air through hole or
loose fittings
Check the siphon hose, rod, and strainer
and rod for blockage, loose fittings, or
holes. Clean or replace parts if
necessary.
Siphon ball check stuck or clogged Remove the ball check and clean or
replace it.
Material supply below level of siphon
strainer
Replenish the material supply.
Air motor or valve seals defective Check the air valve and motor operation.
Disassemble and replace the seals if
necessary.
5. Pump does not stroke
when circulation valve is
open
Circulation valve is clogged or
hydraulic system is blocked
Flush the system with a compatible
solvent or cleaning solution. Check the
gun, nozzle or fluid tip, and circulation
valve. Clean and repair as necessary.
6. Pump is discharging
material into solvent
chamber
Upper packing gland is worn and
leaking
Disassemble the hydraulic section and
replace the packing gland.
7. Spray pattern is fading
or narrowing
Inadequate air supply to pump Check the air supply to the pump. Refer
to the
Specifications
section.
Blockage in hydraulic system Flush the system, check for blockage at
the filter, heater, gun(s), nozzle(s) or
fluid tips, and circulation valve.
Pump capacity being exceeded—
nozzles used are too large, or too
many guns in system
Decrease the nozzle size or number of
guns in the system. Add another pump
to the system if necessary.
Air motor or valve seals leaking Check for leaks. Replace any damaged
seals.
8. Tails appearing in spray
pattern
Low hydraulic pressure Increase air pressure to the pump.
Material viscosity too high If possible, lower the material viscosity
by adding solvent or by heating the
material.
Nozzle or fluid tip damaged Replace the nozzle or fluid tip.
