Only Type G packing glands are rebuildable. Refer to the Parts section
for the kit part numbers. The kits contain all the parts necessary to
rebuild both upper and lower packing glands (upper only for the 2:1 and
4:1 ratio pumps).
1. See Figure 7-7. Remove the internal retaining ring (4), washer (5),
spacers (3) and U-cup (6). Inspect the external O-rings (1) and
replace if necessary.
2. Install a spacer (3) in the packing gland housing (2). Install the
U-cup (6) as shown in Figure 7-7.
NOTE: Make sure the washer is the proper size for the packing gland
housing. Some rebuild kits contain two washers. The smaller washer is
for the upper packing gland and the larger washer is for the lower
packing gland.
3. Install another spacer (3) on top of the U-cup (6). Place a washer (5)
on top of the spacer (3).
4. Using an internal retaining ring compression tool, install a retaining
ring (4), with the sharp edge on the flat facing away from the washer,
as shown in Figure 7-7.
