The following paragraphs cover the procedures to disassemble, clean
and assemble the air motor.
Numbers in parenthesis refer to Figure 7-3.
1.Remove the air valve from the air motor upper head. Refer to the
Air
Valve Disassembly
procedures in this section.
2.Remove the entire air intake assembly (fittings, regulator, gauge) from
the upper head.
3.Remove the hydraulic section from the air motor by unscrewing the
bolts that secure the solvent chamber to the air motor lower head.
Pull the hydraulic section away from the air motor until the bottom of
the connecting rod and the top of the plunger are exposed.
4.Place wrenches on the flats of the connecting rod and plunger. Hold
the connecting rod and turn the plunger counter-clockwise until the
plunger and connecting rod are separated.
5.Loosen the lower screw securing the back panel to the air motor.
Remove the upper screw. Remove the back panel from the air motor.
6.Place a wrench on the flats of the spool carrier (5) below the spool
and hold while removing the socket head screw (1) and
lockwasher(2) from the top of the spool (3). Remove the spool and
O-ring (4) from the spool carrier (5).
7.Unscrew the spool carrier guide (6) from the upper head (8).
8.Use a pointed instrument, such as an awl, to remove the U-cup (7)
from the upper head (8).
9.Remove the four hex nuts (25) and lockwashers (24) from the tie
rods(26). Remove the upper head (8).
10.Remove the square-cut O-ring (23) from the groove on the underside
of the upper head (8).
11.Pull the connecting tube (14) out of the base (16). Remove the
O-ring (15) from each end of the connecting tube (14).
