clear second set
of
tangs. Then remove
the
cap.
To
install, reverse this procedure.
NOTE
:
If
this cap requires a replacement,
only
a cap
with
these same features
should
be
used. Failure
to
use
the
correct
cap can result
in
a serious
malfunction
of
the system.
Correct
replacement caps
may
be
obtained
from
your
Oldsmobile
or
GM
dealer.
SAFETY
HOOD
LATCHES
The
counter
balanced hood
is
manually
unlatched in two steps:
Unlock
the
hood
by
pulling
the
remote
controlled hood release lever labeled
"HOOD",
located inside
the
car
to
the
left of
the
parking brake
foot
pedal
on
the
lower cowl side panel.
With
the
hood released,
the
hood may
be raised by pushing upward on
the
secondary latch located in
the
opening
between
the
front
end panel and the
hood
just
to
the
right of the center line.
Every 4
months
or
6,000
miles, whichever
occurs first, lubricate the hood
latch as
follows:
(1)
Wipe
off
any accumulation of
dirt
or
contamination on latch parts.
(2)
Apply Lubriplate
or
equivalent
to
latch pilot bolts and latch locking
plate.
(3) Apply light engine oil
to
all pivot
points
in
release mechanism, as well as
primary
and
secondary
latch
mechanisms.
(4)
Lubricate hood hinges.
(5) Make functional check
on
hood hinge
and
latch mechanism
to
assure
the
assembly
is
working correctly.
ENGINE
OIL
AND
FILTER
RECOMMENDA
nONS
Use only SE engine oil.
Change oil each 4
months
or
6,000
miles.
If
more
than
6,000
miles are
driven
in
a
4-month
period, change oil
each
6,000
miles.
Change oil each 2
months
or
3,000
miles, whichever occurs first, under
the
following conditions:
--
driving
in
dusty
conditions
--
trailer pulling
--
extensive idling
short-trip operation
at
freezing
temperatures (engine
not
thoroughly
warmed-up).
Operation
in
dust storms may require an
immediate
oil change.
Replace
the
oil filter
at
the
first oil
change,
and
every second oil change
