except
under
heavy
duty
operating conditions such as trailer hauling.
For
heavy
duty
operations, it
is
recommended
that
the
lubricant be
replaced every 12,000 miles.
WHEEL
BEARING
LUBRICATION
Every 24,000 miles, clean, inspect and
repack
the
front
wheel bearings. Use a
premium
high melting
point
wheel bearing
lubricant such as
GM-1051344. The
bearings
should be checked
for
signs
of
galling
and
other
damage from dirt. When
replacement
is
necessary, specify genuine
GM
parts.
CHASSIS
&
BODY
LUBRICATION
At
each engine oil change, lubricate all
grease fittings
in
front
suspension and
steering
linkage and
CV
universal
joint
as
well as
the
parking brake cable guides and
linkage,
the
transmission
and
Cruise
Control linkage,
hood
hinges,· stops
and
latches.
The
following pOil')ts, requiring
body
lubrication, should also
be
checked
and
lubricated
every
engine
oil
change: hinges on all
doors,
fuel filler
door,
trunk
lid,
door
lock striker,
door
jamb
switches, and convertible
top
linkage.
These corrosive effects, however, can be
reduced by periodic
flushing
of
the
underbody
with plain water. In geographic
areas having a heavy
concentration
of
such
corrosive materials, it
is
recommended
that
the
complete
underbody
be inspected
and
flushed
at
least once each year, preferably
after
a
winter's
exposure. Particular
attention
should be given
to
cleaning
out
underbody
members
where
dirt
and
other
foreign materials may have collected.

MAINTENANCE
The
effects
of
salt
and
other
corrosive
materials used
for
ice and
snow
removal
and
dust
control can resu

in accelerated
rusting
and
deterioration
of
underbody
components
such as brake
and
fuel lines,
frame,
underbody
floor pan,
exhaust
system, brackets, parking brake cables.
If desired, your Oldsmobile dealer can
perform this service for
you.
In
addition,
he can provide
recommendations
on
undercoating materials which
will help
protect
your
vehicle from corrosion.
POWER
STEERING
SYSTEM
Check
the
fluid level
in
the
pump
reservoir
at
each oil change period. Add
GM
Power
Steering
Fluid (or
Automatic
Transmission
Fluid
DEXR0J'.J9-11
or
DEXRON®)
as
necessary
to
bring level into
proper
range
on
filler cap indicator depending upon
flu
id
temperature.
