[13J CUE button and indicator
Pressing thi s bu tt on duri ng Fa st Wind modes initiates Cue mode, in
which the tape l ifters re tract a llo wing the tape to be in contact with
the Reprod u ce he ad for audio monitoring at wind speed.
Holdi ng the CUE bu tton pre ss ed causes th e t ape li ft ers to remai n
ret rac t ed as long as the button is held pressed.
Tapping t he CUE bu tton quic kly cau ses t he li fters to remain retracted
until the n ext time the CUE bu tt on is p re sse d.
In Cue mod e, th e Li ne and Mo nit or audio out pu ts are attenuated
-16 dB to prevent damage to speakers or headph ones.
[14J EDIT button and Indicator
Pressing th is butt on wh ile in St op mode cau se s the M X-55 to enter
Edit Re ady mode, in which the tak e-up motor is turned off, the
safe ty sw i tch fo r the Supply Swin g Arm is deactivated, and the EDIT
in dicator flashes.
Press ing the PLAY button while in Edi t Ready m ode, or pressing the
ED IT button while in Play mode, c auses the MX-55 to enter Dump
Ed it mode, in which the Take-up re el does not rotate allowing tape
to be "d u mped" from the transpo rt .
Pr essing the STOP button during E dit mode causes tape motion to
Stop and Edit mode to be canceled.
NOTE : If t here is sl a ck in the t ape p ath and the safety switch for the
Su pply Swing Arm is deactivated , Edit Ready mode will be activated

[15J RECORD botton and Indicator When any channe l is in R ec or d Re ady mode , th e Ready indicator
an d th e R ecord m ode i nd icat or flas h. One of tw o methods of
en te ri ng Record mod e can be select ed. The m eth ods are:
1. Pressing this butto n si multaneou sly with the PLAY button.
2. Pressing this button while the M X-55 is in Play mode.
Si m ila rly there are two selectable methods of l eaving Record mode
while tape mo t ion cont i nues. Th e methods ar e:
1. Pressing the PLAY butto n.
2. P ressin g the RECORD an d STOP bu tto ns simultaneously.
The me th od of ente rin g a nd lea ving Recor d mode is s ele cted by the
position of SWs 1-2 and 1 -3 respectively, on the Transport Control
PCB. Re fer to Se ction 5.3 fo r further information.
