yondthegovernedspeedcauses
additionalstrainonvalvetrainand

eratetheenginewithingoverned
enginespeed.

Onceyouhavedeterminedwhat
thesafespeedisforyourvehicle,
operatetheenginebrakeswiththe
transmissioninthelowestgearthat
willnotcausetheenginespeed
toexceedtheratedenginespeed.
Theoptimumbrakingpowerofthe
enginebrakesisreachedatrated
enginespeed.Correctgearselec-
tion,therefore,iscritical.
Thetwo-positionselectorswitchcan
beusedtovarybrakingpowerasroad
conditionschange.
Vehicleservicebrakesmustbeused
whenadditionalbrakingpoweris
required.
