Categorizing records
Categorize records in the Address Book, To Do List, Memo Pad, and
Expense applications so that they are grouped logically and are easy
to review. (You can also categorize applications. See “Using the
Applications Launcher” in Chapter 3 for more information.)
When you create a record, your organizer automatically places it in
the category that is currently displayed. If the category is All, your
organizer assigns it to the Unfiled category. You can leave an entry as
Unfiled or assign it to a category at any time.
Notes about Categories
You can assign up to 15 unique categories per Palm IIIxe module that
supports categories. For example, you can have 15 unique categories
for the Address Book and 15 unique categories for the Task List. The
categories do not have to the be same. Palm IIIxe categories will
synchronize with Franklin Planner software categories. However, Franklin
Planner software supports unlimited categories per module, and
categories synchronize between Franklin Planner software and the
Palm IIIxe according to the order they were entered. If you try to
synchronize more than 15 categories in Franklin Planner software
with the Palm IIIxe, only the first 15 categories entered in Franklin
Planner software will be synchronized with the Palm IIIxe.
Length of Categories
In addition, Palm IIIxe categories can be no longer than 15 characters
in length. However, Franklin Planner software supports category
names longer than 15 characters. If you are using categories in
Franklin Planner software of longer than 15 characters, those
categories will not be duplicated on the Palm IIIxe, and those tasks or
address book entries or memos will come across to the Palm IIIxe in
the “Unfiled” category. This does not affect the categorization in Franklin
Planner software. If you then make changes to “Unfiled” tasks or
address book entries or memos on the Palm IIIxe, they will
synchronize back to Franklin Planner software in the proper category.
If you want to synchronize categories in both Franklin Planner software
and the Palm IIIxe, we recommend the following:
■ Limit yourself to 15 categories per module.
■ Limit yourself to category names of 15 characters or less.
This will permit seamless category synchronization between the Palm
IIIxe and Franklin Planner software.
