Playing a video cassette
Preparation
≥Turn on the television and select the appropriate video input to suit
the connections to this unit.
≥Press [Í DVD/VHS] to turn the unit on.
≥Press [DRIVE SELECT] to select the VHS drive.
1 Insert a recorded video cassette.

≥Play starts automatically if you insert a video cassette
without the accidental erasure prevention tab.
2 Press [1](PLAY).
∫ To pause play
Press [;]. (Press again, to restart play.)
∫ To stop play
Press [∫].
[Note]
≥If the unit is on standby with the VHS selected, an inserted video
cassette can be played back by pressing [1](PLAY).
≥When the tape reaches its end, the unit automatically rewinds it to
the beginning. This function does not work during timer recording
and fast-forwarding.
≥Jet Search, cue, review or slow-motion play will be automatically
cancelled after 10 minutes and pause will be automatically
cancelled after 5 minutes
≥During playback functions other than normal playback, horizontal
noise bars may appear on the picture, the colour of the picture may
be unstable or the picture may be otherwise distorted.
≥When playing back a video cassette which was recorded on
another VCR, it may be necessary to adjust the tracking (➡ 41). In
some cases the picture quality may still be inferior. This is due to
format constraints.
While stopped
Press [6] (backward)/[5] (forward).
≥Press [∫] to stop fast-forward/Rewind.
During play
Press or press and hold [6] (backward)/
[5] (forward).
≥If you press and hold these buttons, normal playback restarts by
releasing them.
You can high speed search a video in the forward or the reverse
direction.
During play
Press [6] (backward)/[5] (forward)
twice.
≥The picture may not be in colour or the picture may be distorted
depending on the TV.
During play
Press and hold [;] for about 2 seconds or
more.
To perform a higher speed rewind
Press [6 JET REW].
The “6” indication appears on the TV screen and “JETREW”
appears on the unit’s display.
≥Depending on the video cassette or the operating condition, the
rewind speed may change somewhat.
≥The tape counter is reset to “0:00.00” when the tape is rewound to
the beginning.
≥Depending on the video cassettes, this function may not work.
It is also possible to play back video cassettes recorded in the S-
VHS system.
≥Some picture noise may occur depending on the type of video
cassette used.
≥It is not possible to fully obtain the high resolution that S-VHS is
capable of.
≥It is not possible to record in the S-VHS system with the unit.
During play or while stopped
Press and hold [1] (PLAY) for about 5
seconds or more.
≥At the end of the programme the tape automatically rewinds to the
beginning of the programme and play starts again (it only works if
there is at least 5 seconds of blank space at the end of the
programme).
The “R !” indication appears on screen. This continues until you
cancel it.
≥Depending on the video cassette, this function may not work.
To restart normal playback
Press [1](PLAY).
To stop play
Press [∫].
