Reducing Radiated Emissions
To show compliance with the Adjustable Speed Electrical Power Drive Systems Standard BSEN61800-3,
and the Generic Standards BSEN61000-6-3 & BSEN61000-6-4; radiated emission measurements are made
between 30MHz and 1GHz in the far field at a distance of 10 to 30 metres. Limits lower than 30MHz or in
close proximity are not specified.
Emissions from individual components tend to be additive. To reduce the emissions:
The equipment must be mounted in a metal cubicle. Refer to EMC Compliance Table on page C-12.
The cubicle should be as free of openings as is practical. Vent systems suitable for EMC applications are
available from cubicle suppliers and should be used.
Note Radiated magnetic and electric fields inside the cubicle will be high and any components fitted inside
must be sufficiently immune.
All cable entry and exits (power, control, and communication) should use screened cable
Use of screened/armoured cable between VSD/cubicle and motor containing the motor protective earth
(PE) connection is most important. If shielded cable is not available, lay unshielded motor cables in a
metal conduit which will act as a shield. The conduit must be continuous with a direct electrical contact
to the VSD and motor housing. If links are necessary, use braid with a minimum cross sectional area of
10mm
2
.
Use 360° screen terminations.
