decrement the TTL in an IP packet by at least 1 before forwarding it. Effectively, the TTL
is a maximum link counter. When the TTL on a packet reaches 0, the gateway is
expected to return an ICMP Time Exceeded response to your AP. Traceroute determines
the path by sending the first Echo Request message with a TTL of 1 and incrementing the
TTL by 1 on each subsequent transmission until the target responds or the maximum
number of hops is reached. The maximum number of hops is 20 by default and can be
specified in the field "Traceroute Max TTL". The path is determined by examining the
ICMP Time Exceeded messages returned by intermediate gateways and the Echo Reply
message returned by the destination. However, some gateways do not return Time
Exceeded messages for packets with expired TTL values and are invisible to the
traceroute tool. In this case, a row of asterisks (*) is displayed for that hop.
IP Address - Enter the IP Address (such as 192.168.1.102) of the PC whose connection you wish
to diagnose.
Ping Count - Specifies the number of Echo Request messages sent. The default is 4.
Ping Packet Size - Specifies the number of data bytes to be sent. The default is 64.
Ping Timeout - Specifies the time to wait for a response in milliseconds. The default is 800.
Traceroute Max TTL - Set the maximum number of hops (max TTL to be reached) in the path to
search for the target (destination). The default is 20.
Click the Start button to start the diagnostic procedure.
The Diagnostic Results page displays the result of diagnosis.
If the result is similar to the following screen, the connectivity of the Internet is fine.

1 Only one user can use this tool at one time.
2 Options “Number of Pings”, “Ping Size” and “Ping Timeout” are only available for Ping
function. Option “Tracert Hops” is available only for Tracert function.
