7 .2Generallocationrequirements
Whenselectingalocationforyourproductitisimportanttoconsidera
numberoffactors.
Keyfactorswhichcanaffectproductperformanceare:
•Ventilation—T oensureadequateairflow:
–Ensurethatproductismountedinacompartmentofsuitablesize.
–Ensurethatventilationholesarenotobstructed.Allowadequate
separationofallequipment.
Anyspecificrequirementsforeachsystemcomponentareprovidedlater
inthischapter.
•Mountingsurface—Ensureproductisadequatelysupportedonasecure
surface.Donotmountunitsorcutholesinplaceswhichmaydamage
thestructureofthevessel.
•Cabling—Ensuretheproductismountedinalocationwhichallowsproper
routing,supportandconnectionofcables:
–Minimumbendradiusof100mm(3.94in)unlessotherwisestated.
–Usecableclipstopreventstressonconnectors.
–Ifyourinstallationrequiresmultipleferritestobeaddedtoacablethen
additionalcableclipsshouldbeusedtoensuretheextraweightofthe
cableissupported.
•Wateringress—Theproductissuitableformountingbothaboveand
belowdecks.Althoughtheunitiswaterproof,itisgoodpracticetolocate
itinaprotectedareaawayfromprolongedanddirectexposuretorain
andsaltspray.
•Electricalinterference—Selectalocationthatisfarenoughawayfrom
devicesthatmaycauseinterference,suchasmotors,generatorsandradio
transmitters/receivers.
•Powersupply—Selectalocationthatisascloseaspossibletothe
vessel’sDCpowersource.Thiswillhelptokeepcablerunstoaminimum.

electronics,thereareanumberofenvironmentalfactorstoconsiderwhen
installingequipmentwithaninternalGNSSreceiver.

•AboveDecks(e.g.openair)mounting:Providesoptimalperformance.(For
equipmentwithappropriatewaterproofrating.)
•BelowDecks(e.g.enclosedspace)mounting:Performancemaybeless
effectiveandmayrequireanexternalantennaorreceivermountedabove
decks.
