3.2EMCinstallationguidelines

Raymarine®equipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriateElectromagneticCompatibility

(EMC)regulations,tominimizeelectromagneticinterferencebetweenequipmentandminimizethe

effectsuchinterferencecouldhaveontheperformanceofyoursystem

CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceisnotcompromised.

Note:

InareasofextremeEMCinterference,someslightinterferencemaybenoticed.Wherethisoccurs

theproductandthesourceoftheinterferenceshouldbeseparatedbyagreaterdistance.

ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwhereverpossible:

•Raymarine®equipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:

–Atleast1m(3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcablescarryingradiosignalse.g.VHFradios,

cablesandantennas.InthecaseofSSBradios,thedistanceshouldbeincreasedto2m(7ft).

–Morethan2m(7ft)fromthepathofaRadarbeam.ARadarbeamcannormallybeassumedto

spread20degreesaboveandbelowtheradiatingelement.

•Theproductissuppliedpowerfromaseparatebatteryfromthatusedforenginestart.Thisis

importanttopreventerraticbehavioranddatalosswhichcanoccuriftheenginestartdoesnot

haveaseparatebattery.

•OnlyRaymarine®speciﬁedcablesareused.

•Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedintheinstallationinstructions.

Note:

Whereconstraintsontheinstallationpreventanyoftheaboverecommendations,alwaysensure

themaximumpossibleseparationbetweendifferentitemsofelectricalequipment,toprovidethe

bestconditionsforEMCperformancethroughouttheinstallation.

Suppressionferrites

•Raymarinecablesmaybepre-ﬁttedorsuppliedwithsuppressionferrites.Theseareimportantfor

correctEMCperformance.Ifferritesaresuppliedseparatelytothecables(i.e.notpre-ﬁtted),you

mustﬁtthesuppliedferrites,usingthesuppliedinstructions.

•Ifaferritehastoberemovedforanypurpose(e.g.installationormaintenance),itmustbereplaced

intheoriginalpositionbeforetheproductisused.

•Useonlyferritesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarineoritsauthorizeddealers.

•Whereaninstallationrequiresmultipleferritestobeaddedtoacable,additionalcableclipsshould

beusedtopreventstressontheconnectorsduetotheextraweightofthecable.

Connectionstootherequipment

Requirementforferritesonnon-Raymarinecables.

IfyourproductistobeconnectedtootherequipmentusingacablenotsuppliedbyRaymarine,a

suppressionferriteMUSTalwaysbeattachedtotheendofthecablenearesttotheRaymarine

product.
