CONTROLS/STEERING
Standard engines use remote controls and mechanical
helm steering cables along with engine power steering
units.
Select engines use “ y by wire” controls which are de-
signed controls without actual cables for shi and
throttle control along with steering functions without
steering cables running from the steering wheel to the
outdrive.
ese units use hydraulics and special engine so ware.
Read your Volvo or MercCruiser operator’s manual for
more detailed information on the system on your vessel.
Volvo “ y by wire” is known as Electronic Vessel Con-
trol or EVC. MerCruiser “ y by wire” is known as Digi-
tal rottle & Shi or DTS.
