K9K
11A
1 - Cleaning the cylinder head joint face
a
a Clean the joint face using ABRASIVE PADS :
-of the cylinder head,
-of the cylinder block.
a Use a SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and ingredients for the repairwork) (04B, Consu-
mables - Products) and CLEAN CLOTHS to de-
grease the joint faces:
-of the cylinder head,
-of the cylinder block,
-of the exhaust gas cooler mounting on the gearbox
side,
-of the oil vapour rebreathing valve.
2 - Checking the gasket face
a Check with a cylinder head rule and a set of feeler
gauges to determine if the joint face has been defor-
med.
a The maximum deformation is 0.05 mm.
3 - Cleaning the joint face of the rocker cover
a
a Clean the cylinder head joint face using ABRASIVE
PADS.
a Use SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and ingredients for the repairwork) (04B, Consu-
mables - Products) and CLEAN CLOTHS to de-
grease:
- the cylinder head joint face,
- the rocker cover housing.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
a Bring the pistons to mid-stroke position to prevent
any risk of contact with the valves when tightening
the cylinder head.
WARNING
Protect the oilway so that foreign bodies do not
enter the oil pipes in the cylinder head.
Failure to follow this instruction could lead to the
blocking of the oilways, resulting in a rapid dete-
rioration of the camshaft.
WARNING
No regrinding of the cylinder head is permitted.
Note:
If the cylinder head is faulty:
-strip down the cylinder head (see Stripping the
cylinder head) (Technical Note 6006A, 10A,
Engine and cylinder block assembly),
-test the cylinder head for possible cracks using
the cylinder head test kit,
-rebuild the cylinder head (see Stripping the
cylinder head) (Technical Note 6006A, 10A,
Engine and cylinder block assembly).
WARNING
Do not scrape the joint faces of the aluminium,
any damage caused to the joint face will result in
a risk of leaks.
WARNING
To ensure proper sealing, the gasket surfaces
must be clean, dry and not greasy (avoid any fin-
ger marks).
Note:
The operation to refit the cylinder head requires
two people.
Note:
The cylinder head gasket has a foolproofing
device which must be positioned on the cylinder
block inlet side.
