5.2 Inserting a Membrane Filter
Procedure
t Take the membrane filter out of the packaging, e.g. with tweezers, and if
necessary moisten it with distilled water.
t When inserting a cellulose nitrate filter in a dry device: Do not wet the
membrane filter. Only use dry cellulose nitrate filters.
t When inserting a cellulose nitrate filter in a wet device: Only use a wet
cellulose nitrate filter.
t When inserting a cellulose acetate filter or a nylon filter (polyamide)
into the device: Only use a wet membrane filter.
t Place the membrane filter centrally on the filter support without tension.
t If staged filtration is to be carried out: Insert up to three membrane
filters. Place polyester fabric (accessory) between the membrane filters.
t If a prefilter is used: Place the filter centrally on the membrane filter.
t The diameter of the prefilter must not be larger than 130 mm.
t
WARNING Risk of injury due to medium escaping uncontrollably. If
the prefilter is under the O-ring: The device may leak and media may
escape uncontrollably. Make sure that the prefilter is not under the
O-ring.
t If staged filtration is to be carried out: Insert up to three membrane
filters. Place polyester fabric (accessory) between the membrane filters.
t Place the upper part of the device with an exact fit on the lower part of
the device.
5.3 Sealing the Device
Procedure
t If the device is sterilized prior to use:
t Lightly tighten the locking clamps by hand.
t If the device is not sterilized prior to use:
t Firmly tighten the locking clamps by hand.
y If the device is not sterilized prior to use: The device is ready for use.
