Operation
t If strings of gas bubbles escape regularly from the end of the silicone
tube: The bubble point has been reached.
t To ensure the integrity of the membrane filter: Compare the bubble-
point observed with the bubble-point limit value of the membrane filter
used.
Tip
To determine the acceptable bubble-point limits for solutions that have a
different surface tension from water: Record the bubble-point values deter-
mined before and after filtration in a table.
6.2 Filtering Liquids
Requirement
The device is ready for use.
Procedure
t If sterile filtration is carried out: Perform an integrity check.
t With a pressure tube, connect the inlet of the device to a pressure
source with a pressure gage.
t Place a receptacle under the outlet of the device or connect the outlet
of the device to a receptacle via a tube.
t Remove the filler opening cap from the device.
t Introduce the medium to be filtered into the filler opening.
t Seal the filler opening with the filler opening cap.
t To prevent the passage of air after the end of the filtration: Apply
operating pressure to the device below the bubble-point value of the
inserted filter.
y Filtration starts.
t When filtration is complete: Close the pressure source.
t To vent the device: Carefully open the filler opening cap.
t If sterile filtration is carried out: Perform an integrity check.
t Clean the device (see Chapter “5.1.2 Cleaning the Device”, page 17).
Tip
To increase the volume of the total filterable fluid: Operate at low pressure,
e.g. 0.5 bar – 1.0 bar.
