3 Basic Operation
3.4 Shield Ring Height Check
16 FPD-2010
7.
Rotate the shield ring mounted at the end of the nozzle. Refer to the following values and set the ring
to the appropriate height using a provided adjuster.
SPL (Split/Split-less sample injection port) : Shield ring height = approx. 2.0 mm
WBI (Direct sample injection port) : Shield ring height = approx. 4.0 mm
NOTE The direct sample introduction method is a method to introduce almost all the sample injected using a wide
bore column. Because a column with the inside diameter of 0.53 mm or more is used, the resolution will be
poor. Also, the sensitivity may not be improved as the peak shape becomes broad.
NOTE When the wide bore column is used for analysis in the direct sample injection port, the hydrogen flame
becomes unstable due to the increasing column flow rate. If the hydrogen flame is apt to be distinguished,
decrease the column flow rate or increase the flow rate of hydrogen/air. Set the shield ring to the appropriate
height for analysis.
As shown in the figure, insert the nozzle tip into the adjuster hole. If the upper end of the shield ring is
aligned with the lowest groove of the adjuster, it is set to the height of 2.0 mm. (The interval between
the grooves is 1 mm.)
