7.2 Startup
Before startup, replace the yellow plastic screw plug with the air filter (see notice on
gear unit).
7.2.1 Oil level
The oil level must be monitored by means of the existing oillevel monitoring equipment. To do so, the gear
unit must be shut down.
When the oil is cool, the level should be at the upper mark on the oil dipstick or the middle of oilsight glass.
When the oil is warm it may slightly exceed this mark.
It must in no case be allowed to fall below the mark. If necessary, top up to the correct
level.
7.2.2 Gear unit with cooling coil or external oilsupply system
For technical data, refer to the data sheet and/or the list of equipment.
Fully open the stop valves in the coolant in and outflow pipes.
After starting up the external oilsupply system for the first time the oil level must be
once more checked in accordance with item 7.2.1.
7.2.3 Gear unit with backstop
Observe details at item 5.8, "Backstop"!
Before startup, check whether the backstop can be turned manually in the freewheeling direction without
exerting undue force. Observe the directionofrotation arrows on the housing.
To avoid damaging the backstop or the gear unit, the motor must not be run adversely
to the stop direction of the gear unit.
Observe the notice fixed to the gear unit.
If the gear unit is operated at speeds below the speed at which the backstop
disengages, the backstops must be regularly renewed. The frequency of change is
stated on the dimensioned drawing prepared in accordance with the order and on
a plate on the gear unit. This plate is attached to the gearunit housing close to the
backstop.
If a backstop with release mechanism is used, the operating instructions for this
backstop must be followed.
Moreover, the dimension "x
min.
" must be checked; "x
min.
" must not be smaller than
that stated on the backstop rating plate.
Before connecting the motor, determine the direction of rotation of the threephase current supply using
a phasesequence indicator, and wire the motor in accordance with the predetermined direction of
rotation.
The unit can be started up once the amount of oil indicated on the notice has been
poured in through the oil filler plug screw of the backstop. Always use oil of the same
type and viscosity as for the gear unit.
