4.1 Prepare
4.1.1 How to integrate a device description
Requirement
● SIMATIC PDM is installed.
Procedure
1. Open the Windows start menu and select the menu commandSIMATIC PDM > Device
Integration Manager under Siemens SIMATIC programs.
To be able to use the Device Integration Manager, you must accept the license agreement.
2. Select the menu command File > Read device descriptions ... .
3. Navigate to the folder with the device descriptions in the tree structure.
Note on "Device Library" DVD:
The "Device Library" DVD is supplied with SIMATIC PDM. Select the drive containing the
DVD.
4. Click "OK".
The device descriptions in the folder are displayed in the "Devices" list.
5. Select the check box for the devices whose device descriptions you want to integrate.
The default directory is "Foundation Fieldbus". All subfolders must remain activated for the
"Foundation Fieldbus" directory.
Note
Integrating device descriptions
Many FF devices require information that is stored in other device descriptions.
Recommendation:
Integrate all device descriptions that provided with the SIMATIC PDM "Device Library"
DVD.
6. Click "Integrate".
The device descriptions are transferred to the computer.
