In the network view of STEP7, select PROFINET interface X1 of one of the two CPUs of the
redundant system.
2.
In the Inspector window, navigate to "Properties > General > Advanced options > Media
redundancy".
Figure 8-6S7‑1500R/H: Setting media redundancy
In the Inspector window, STEP 7 displays the properties of the MRPdomain in which the
PROFINETinterface X1 of the CPU is located.
3.
Take over or set the appropriate media redundancy role for the PROFINET interface X1 of
the CPU.
4.
Click the "Domain settings" button.
5.
In the "Devices" table, assign the MRP roles in the "MRP role" column for all IO devices
according to the topology:
For all devices in the PROFINET ring "Client"
For all devices in a line topology "Not device in the ring"
The following example shows the setting of the MRP roles for a PROFINET ring.

4. Configuring devices outside the STEP7 project
Set the same MRP role for devices of the PROFINET ring, line or combined topology, that are
not in STEP 7 as for the devices that you configured in STEP7.
Example: For a switch in the PROFINET ring, set the MRP role "Client" via the Web interface of
the switch.
