The AF illuminator supplies fill light to focus more easily on a subject in dark surroundings.
The AF illuminator emits red light allowing the cmnera to lk_cus easily when the shutter button
is pressed hall\ray, until tile fucus is lucked. The D_on indicator appears at this time.

• 11 the AF illuminator light does not lvach tile subjecl sulficiendy or the subject has no contrast, lbcus will
not be achieved. (A distance of up to approximately 2.0 m (78 25/32 inches) is recommended.)
• Focus is achieved as long as tile AF illuminator light reaches the subject, even if tile light is slightly off the
center of the subject.
• When Focus preset is set (page 30), AF Illuminator does not hmction.
• The AF range finder 1tame does not appear. The _i_, m or El indicator flashes, and AF operates with
prioriu on subjects located near the center of the fi'ame.
• The AF illuminator does not operalc when ._ (Twilight mode), [] (Landsc_lpe mode), _'_ (High-speed
shuttm" mode) or ,_@, (Fireworks mode) is _lecled in the Scene mode.
• The AF illuminator emits very bright light. Although there arc no problems \vilh salely, do not look
directly int_) the AF i]lumilmtor emiuer at clo_ range.
