5000 MV ONLY!
Non-CT Rated Meters
(For 6000 Bird Dog Plus Users, Look at Section 3.2.7 of this Manual for Instructions on
Non-CT Rated Meters)
F.3.1.7 Form 1 Meter—Form 1 meters are older style meters used for residential
purposes. They only have 1 stator and 1 current coil. Along with the Bird Dog Plus, you
will need the self-contained, clamp-on CTs (5000-MV-SC2-2) from Spinlab. Two clamp-
on CTs come in the package to allow you to also test Form 2 & 12 meters. You will only
need one of these probes to test a Form 1 meter. It will plug into the P2 port of the Bird
Dog Plus. The voltage cable with alligator clips will connect into the P1 port of the Bird
Dog Plus. Also, the clamp-on CT has a lower limit of .5 amps. This means that the
conductor on a form 1 meter will have to be carrying .5 amps or more to gain the accuracy
of .2%. Hookup the probes as follows:
Meter Test Hookup
Voltage Cable
o Red Alligator clip to line 1
o White alligator clip to neutral. This produces V
1N.
o Black alligator clip leave unconnected

F.3.1.8 Form 2 Meters—Form 2 meters are residential style meters that have 2
different configurations: (a) 2 wire with 1 stator and 2 current coils and (b) 3 wire with 1
stator and 2 current coils. The 2 wire configuration can be tested just like the Form 1 meter
shown above.
The 3 wire configurations are very common residential meters. To perform a meter
verification test on these meters, you will need both of the 5000-MV-SC2-2 clamp-on CTs
from Spinlab. Both of the clamp-on CTs will sum into the P2 port of the Bird Dog Plus to
provide a current reading. The voltage cable with alligator clips will connect into the P1
port of the Bird Dog Plus. Connect the voltage alligator clips and the clamp on probes to
the meter as shown below. For the currents, you will have one flowing in one direction and
another flowing in the other direction. Note the hookup below.
