Service manual
9 - To check the wear in the compression rings, insert
them one at a time into the cylinder (25) by about
10-15 mm and measure the gap between the two
ends with a feeler gauge (28); the rings must be
replaced if the gap is more than 0.8 mm.
NOTE - If a gap of more than 0.4 mm is measu-
red with new rings it means that the cylinder is
worn beyond the acceptable limits and must
be replaced. The cylinder must be replaced
if it shows striping due to a seizure.
10 - Use a section of an old ring (29) to carefully
clean the inside of the piston (24) ring housings, en-
suring that the oil passage holes are not blocked.
11 - To check the wear in the piston ring housings,
t a new ring and measure the residual space with
a feeler gauge (30). The piston must be replaced
if it is greater than 0.12 mm in the two compression
ring housings.
12 - Use a screwdriver to remove the clamping ring
(31) and remove the gudgeon pin (32) from the
piston (24).
