Guide to Using this Service Manual
This service manual contains the necessary safety 
information, exploded drawings and instructions for 
diagnosis and repairs. The graphic elements used in this 
manual have the following meanings:
Supplements to this service manual
Technical information bulletins supplement the service 
manual until a revised edition is issued.
– Always refer to the latest edition of the relevant parts 
list for the part numbers of any replacement parts.
– Use the part numbers to identify the tools in the 
"STIHL Special Tools" manual.
– None of these documents may be passed to third 
parties.
Interactive video tutorial
Interactive video tutorials may be used for repair 
procedures. They can be opened from the service 
manual.
Your computer must meet the following requirements:
– Active internet connection
– HTML5 compatible internet browser
2.1 Protective Gloves 
Sharp or hot components can cause cuts or burns.
N If sharp or hot components have to be handled during 
a repair: Wear protective gloves.
2.2 Safety Glasses 
Particles and objects can be thrown into the air at high 
speed during a repair. Thrown particles or objects can 
cause eye injuries.
N If there is a risk of particles being thrown during the 
repair: Wear safety glasses.
2.3 Spare Parts
If spare parts not approved by STIHL are installed, they 
may not fulfill the required function or deactivate safety 
devices. This can result in serious or fatal injuries. 
N STIHL recommends the use of genuine STIHL 
replacement parts.
3.1 Preparing the Machine 
N Remove the padding.
N Drain the fuel tank into a container approved for fuels.
N Remove auger.
N Clean the machine.
