11 Installing the Perimeter Wire
11.11 Accurate Mowing Along Edges
► Along high obstacles, route the perimeter wire with a
minimum clearance of a = 11 in. (28 cm) from the
obstacle. This buffer area will be left unmowed.
To avoid the buffer area which will be left unmowed, you can
lay edging stones or pavers around high obstacles, e.g.
walls. The width of the eding stones must be at least
b = 10.2 in. (26 cm).
11.12 Sloping Terrain in the Mowing Area
NOTICE
STIHL recommends that you install the perimeter wire at a
maximum pitch of +/- 10 degrees. The perimeter wire can be
installed up to +/- 15 degrees, but this can require additional
adjustments to the perimeter wire installation. Slopes should
also be noted in the garden sketch.
Maintain a minimum distance of at least 39.4 in. (100 cm)
from water and other potential drop-offs, such as edges and
steps.
To install the perimeter wire at a slope with an incline of 5°
to 15°:
► Route the perimeter wire (1) past the top edge of the
slope, keeping a minimum clearance of a = 19.7 in.
(0.5 m).
► If the incline exceeds 15°, route the perimeter wire so that
the robotic mower will stop before it reaches the edge of
the slope. The top edge of the slope and the slope itself
should remain outside the mowing area.
11.13 Installing Reserve Wire
Installing reserve lengths of perimeter wire at regular
intervals will make it easier to later modify the mowing area
or placement of the docking station if that should become
necessary.
