To install HIMEM.SYS in its simplest form, include the
following command line in your
CONFIG.SYS file before any
other device commands that use Extended memory:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
In this form,
HIMEM.SYS uses default values. Access to HMA
is on a “first-come-first-served” basis.
RAMDRIVE.SYS
A RAM disk is a portion of your computer’s memory
configured to simulate a disk drive. A RAM disk, also called
a virtual disk, can be accessed much faster than a normal
drive.
You lose the data stored on a
RAM disk when you turn the
computer power off. Therefore, to save the contents of a
RAM disk, copy the contents of the RAM disk to a floppy or
to the hard drive before turning off power. You can copy
files using the included Laptop File Manager utility or the
MS-DOS COPY command, or you can set up a batch file to do
it automatically. Unlike a normal disk, a
RAM disk does not
require formatting before use.
To set up a
RAM disk, include the following line in your
CONFIG.SYS file:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\RAMDRIVE.SYS [size]
Specify the size in kilobytes. The minimum size is 16 KB,
and the default value is 64 KB.

RAM
disk. Refer to your BatteryPro & Productivity Software
User’s Manual for details.
The
RAM disk is given the drive letter that follows the last
drive letter being used by your system. For example:
