Unit Description
General Description
The Thermo King MD-MT is a diesel-powered,
multi-temperature cooling/heating system
designed to control temperature in separate cargo
compartments. The truck is divided into two cargo
compartments. Each compartment contains one or
two remote evaporator units. The condensing unit,
mounted on the front of the cargo compartment,
contains the diesel engine, compressor and
condenser.
The MD-MT operates under the control of a
TG-V microprocessor controller. The In-Cab
Dual-Temp Controller provides safe, convenient
operation and monitoring of cargo compartment
temperatures. Each cargo compartment is
controlled by its own thermostat. The temperature
of each of the compartments can be controlled
separately.
There are two MD-MT models:
• MD-MT 30: Cooling and heating on diesel
engine operation.
• MD-MT 50: Cooling and heating on diesel
engine operation or Electric Standby
operation.
Power to the system is provided by a Thermo
King TK 3.74, water-cooled, 3 cylinder diesel
engine rated at 10.7 continuous horsepower
(7.98 kW) at 2400 RPM. A centrifugal clutch
mounted on the engine and belt drive system
transfer power to the compressor, water pump,
condenser fan and alternator.
On Model 50 units, Electric Standby power is
provided by an electric motor. A clutch on the
diesel engine isolates it during Electric Standby
operation. Electric Standby is covered in the
Electric Standby Operation Chapter.
The low noise option features an aerodynamic
front cover and a low noise control on the In-Cab
Remote Control Box.
