RestoringthefactorycontentsbyusingRecoveryDiscSet
Whentheharddiskdrive(HDD)orsolidstatedrive(SSD)isreplacedbecauseofafailure,noproductrecovery
programisonthenewdrive.Inthiscase,youmustusetheRecoveryDiscSetforthecomputer.Orderthe
RecoveryDiscSetandthedriveatthesametimesothatyoucanrecoverthenewdrivewiththepre-installed
softwarewhentheyarrive.Forinformationonwhichdiscstoorder,see“Recoverydiscs”onpage166
.
TherecoverydiscsetconsistsoftheuserinstructionsandthefollowingsetofDVDstorestorethecomputer
totheoriginalfactoryconguration.

system.Usethisdisctostarttherecoveryprocess.

Thisdisccontainsadditionalcontent,suchas
updatestothesoftwarethatwaspreinstalledonthe
computer.Notallrecoverydiscsetscomewitha
SupplementalRecoveryDisc.
Notes:
•Y oumusthaveaDVDdrivetousetherecoverydiscs.IfyoudonothaveaninternalDVDdrive,you
canuseanexternalUSBDVDdrive.
•Duringtherecoveryprocess,alldataonthedrivewillbedeleted.Ifpossible,copyanyimportantdata
orpersonallesthatyouwanttokeepontoremovablemediaoranetworkdrivebeforeyoustartthe
recoveryprocess.
Torestorethecomputertotheoriginalfactorycongurationusingtherecoverydiscset,dothefollowing:

userecoverydiscs,therecoveryprocesswilltakeabouttwohours.
1.MaketheCD/DVDdrivetherststartupdeviceinthestartupsequenceusingthefollowingprocedure:
a.PressandholddowntheF1key,andthenturnonthecomputer.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed
orifyouhearrepeatingbeeps,releasetheF1key.TheThinkPadSetupprogramopens.
b.UsethearrowkeystoselectStartup➙Boot.
c.SelecttheCD/DVDdriveasthe1stBootDevice.
