Chapter 4 Maintenance
Cleaning
The PDXC2 does not require regular cleaning under normal operation conditions. When cleaning is necessary,
please use lint-free cloth slightly dipped with alcohol to clean the outer surface of the housing.
Firmware Update
The PDXC2 allows users to update its firmware. If a firmware update is needed, follow the steps below:
1. Connect the PDXC2 to PC via USB.
2. Then process as chapter “3.1.2. Software and Firmware Upgrades”.
Encoder Calibration
The encoders of PDX1/PDXR1 support calibration. Calibration is an essential operation that completes encoder
set-up on a high-speed, close loop piezo inertial drive stage, with the optimum incremental and reference mark
signal settings stored in the read head’s non-volatile memory. Each stage is already calibrated before shipping out.
Usually, the stage does not require additional calibration. But after long term operation, shock, or mishandling,
re-calibration could be necessary to retain accurate operation. The re-calibration process can be performed by
users.
The user may need to do calibration if the position reported is not accurate or when homing process has failed
multiple times.
Before performing calibration, the user needs to connect the RS232 cable or USB cable to the PDXC2 and open
the Calibration Tool to start encoder calibration. Follow items from 1 to 6 below to complete the calibration.
1. Select the COM of RS232 port or USB port for Calibration Tool, then click “Connect” button.
2. Click “Start” button for start encoder calibration.
3. No action required, wait for about 5-8 seconds and continue.
4. In this step, it is required that user moves the stage manually half range, starting from the middle position,
toward either end of the travel range, back and forth, several times with very low speed(<10mm/s).
