Why is there excess motion of the pipette tip during manual adjustment on my THORLABS PCS-6000?

      Rachael WaltersAug 6, 2025
If you notice excess motion of the pipette tip during manual adjustment of your THORLABS Controller, it's often due to instability from loose mechanical connections or dirt between surfaces. Ensure all screws are tight, including those on rotary and pivot stages, headstage mount, linear stages, and the mounting system itself. Also, make sure mating surfaces are clean and free of any debris or burrs. Check for vibration issues from wires and ensure the mounting system is stable.

What to do if my THORLABS PCS-6000 has no fine motion?
    • C
      Carolyn HodgeAug 18, 2025
If your THORLABS Controller exhibits no fine motion, a likely cause is a mechanical interference between the piezo and parts of the microscope like the stage or sample chamber. Visually inspect for any obstructions. Also, ensure the piezo cables are properly connected and that the cable to the ACU is securely connected at the control unit's back. Gently check that the axis can move freely when manually pushed and that no part of the micromanipulator is rubbing against the microscope mount.
