7.4. Troubleshooting
Problem: Excess motion of pipette tip during manual adjustment
Typical Symptoms:
l Excess or erratic motion of pipette tip
l Pipette sensitive to vibration
l "Losing" cells after making a seal
Probable Causes
l Instability is generally caused by loose mechanical
connections or dirt/debris between the mating surfaces
What to Check
Micromanipulator and Linear Stages:
l Check that the following screws are tight:
1. Locking screws on rotary and pivot stages
2. Screws holding headstage to headstage mount
3. Screws holding linear stages to each other
4. Screws holding linear stages to mounting system
l Check to see that the tension and vibrations are not coupled
from the wires into the manipulator. Leave a vibration loop
between the vibration table and the manipulator.
l Check that the mating surfaces between the linear stages
and the mounting system are free of dirt, debris, and burrs.
Mounting System
l Check that the mounting system is stable.
l Check that all screws are tight
l Check that mating surfaces are free of dirt, debris, and burrs.
