2.18 ADS-B and TIS Testing
The TR-220 Test Set provides operators with the capability to test ADS-B and TIS functions that
are now standard in many models of Transponders. This is an enhancement over standard
MODE S transponder that provides operators with unique information previously not available.
2.18.1 ADS-B TX
NOTE
The TR-220 provides test capability for Mode S Transponders capable of DF17 Extended
Squitters or ADS-B. The TR-220 ADS-B TX test can be accessed as follows.
1. Utilize either the Direct Connect Method, Directional Antenna, or the optional
TAP-200 for ADS-B and TIS Tests. Utilize paragraph 2.9 for instructions.
2. Turn the Test SetON” by toggling the ON/OFF switch to the ON position.
Ensure the green LED illuminates.
3. The Test Set commences the Self-Test. “PASS” is displayed briefly if no failures
are detected.
4. Turn the UUT FUNCTION switch to ADS-B TX. If no
ADS-B squitters are
received, the following screen will appear:
5. If a DF17 or DF18 squitter is detected, the display will show the following
information. Use the AUTO/TEST/MANUAL switch to toggle between screens.
If the Transponder is in the Air and is transmitting a BDS 0,5 Extended Squitter
Airborne Position Report, the following screen will be displayed:
