1.Removethedrain/llpluganddraintheoilfromthegearbox.
2.Removethe4socket-headscrewsandseparatethegearboxcoverand
housing.Removeanddiscardthecovergasket.
3.Slidethesungear,ringgear,andplanetgearsfromthepinsonthegear
boxhousing.
4.Continuetodisassemblethegearboxasnecessary.
5.Ifthedriveadapterrequiresreplacement,applymediumstrengththread
lockingcompound(Loctite243orequivalent)totheinternalthreadsofthe
driveshaftandthelargerthreadsofthedriveadapter(reelend).Allow
thethreadlockingcompoundtocurefor15minutesbeforecontinuingthis
procedure.
CAUTION
Usethelarge1.375inchatsonthedriveshafttopreventthedrive
shaftfromrotatingduringdriveadapterremovalandinstallation.DO
NOTusethe0.5inchhexheadonthedriveshaftfordriveadapter
removalorinstallationasdriveshaftdamagemayoccur.
Note:Aspecialtoolisavailabletoholdthedriveshaftifnecessary;referto
AdapterWrench(page9–6).
6.Tightenthedriveadapterfrom150to163N∙m(110to120ft-lb).
7.Carefullycleanallthegasketmaterialfromthegearboxhousingandcover.
8.InspecttheV-ring,seals,bearings,gears,andbushingsinthegearbox
assembly.Replacethedamagedorworncomponentsasnecessary.
9.Ifthesungear,ringgear,orthegearboxhousingbearingsarereplaced,
pressthebearingsallthewaytoshoulderintothepart.
10.Iftheangebushingsarereplaced,ensurethattheangebushingisfully
seatedagainstthepart.
11.Assemblythegearbox.
•EnsurethatalltheretainingringsandO-ringsarefullyseatedinthering
grooveduringassembly.
•LubricatetheseallipsandO-ringsbeforeinstallingtheshafts.
•Lubricatetheplanetgearandsungearpinsinthegearboxhousingwith
thegearoilpriortoinstallingthegears.
12.Cleanthegasketsurfaceonthegearboxhousingandcoverwiththesolvent
andinstallnewgasket.
13.Fitthegearboxcoveroverdowelpinsandinstallthe4socket-headscrews.
Tightenthescrewsfrom1.7to4.5N∙m(15to40in-lb).Inanalternating
crosspattern,tightenthescrewsfrom8.4to9.6N∙m(75to85in-lb).
14.Fillthegearboxwith80W−90gearoilandtightenthedrain/llplugfrom
4to5N∙m(32to42in-lb).
Thegearboxoilcapacityis50ml(1.7uidounces).
15.Operatethegroomergearboxbyhandtocheckforproperoperationpriorto
installation.
