1.Removethepipeplugfromthecleanoutportatthe
lowersideofthemufer.
CAUTION
Themufermaybehotandcouldcause
injury.
Becarefulwhileworkingaroundthemufer.
2.Starttheengine.Plugthenormalmuferexitwitha
blockofwoodormetalplatesothattheexhaustow
willbeforcedoutofthecleanoutport.
Note:Continuetoblocktheexituntilcarbondeposits
ceasecomingoutoftheport.
CAUTION
Donotstandinlinewiththecleanoutport.
Alwayswearsafetyglasses.
3.Stoptheengineandreplacethepipeplug.
Storage
PreparingtheTractionUnit
1.Thoroughlycleanthetractionunit,thecuttingunits,
andtheengine.
2.Checkthetirepressure;refertoCheckingtheTire
Pressure(page21).
3.Checkallfastenersforlooseness;tightenasnecessary.
4.Greaseoroilallgreasettingsandpivotpoints.Wipe
upanyexcesslubricant.
5.Lightlysandandusetouch-uppaintonpaintedareas
thatarescratched,chipped,orrusted.Repairanydents
inthemetalbody.
6.Servicethebatteryandcablesasfollows:
A.Removethebatteryterminalsfromthebattery
posts.
B.Cleanthebattery,terminals,andpostswithawire
brushandbakingsodasolution.
C.Coatthecableterminalsandbatterypostswith
Grafo112Xskin-overgrease(Toropart505-47)
orpetroleumjellytopreventcorrosion.
D.Slowlychargethebatteryevery60daysfor24
hourstopreventleadsulfationofthebattery.
7.Engagethetransportlatches(Groundsmaster4700-D
only).
PreparingtheEngine
1.Draintheengineoilfromtheoilpanandinstallthe
drainplug.
2.Removeanddiscardtheoillter.Installanewoillter.
3.Filltheoilpanwith9.5L(10USqt)ofSAE15W-40
CH-4,CI-4,orhigherengineoil.
4.Starttheengineandrunitatidlespeedfor
approximately2minutes.
5.Stoptheengine.
6.Flushthefueltankwithfresh,cleandieselfuel.
7.Secureallofthefuel-systemttings.
8.Thoroughlycleanandservicetheair-cleanerassembly.
9.Sealtheair-cleanerinletandtheexhaustoutletwith
weatherprooftape.
10.Checktheantifreezeprotectionandadda50/50
solutionofwaterandethyleneglycolantifreezeas
neededfortheexpectedminimumtemperatureinyour
area.
CuttingDeck
Ifthecuttingdeckisseparatedfromthetractionunitforany
lengthoftime,installaspindlepluginthetopofthespindle
toprotectthespindlefromdustandwater.
