Operation

Theuseofprotectiveequipment,suchasbut
notlimitedto,foreyes,ears,feet,andheadis
recommended.
CheckingtheEngineOil
Theengineisshippedwithoilinthecrankcase;
however,theoillevelmustbecheckedbeforeand
aftertheengineisrststarted.
Crankcasecapacityisapproximately3.7L(3.9quarts)
withthelter.
Usehigh-qualityengineoilthatmeetsthefollowing
specications:
APIClassicationLevelRequired:CH–4,CI–4or
higher.
Preferredoil:SAE10W–30
Alternateoil:SAE15W–40
ToroPremiumEngineoilisavailablefromyour
distributorinthe10W–30viscosity.Seetheparts
catalogforpartnumbers.
Note:Thebesttimetochecktheengineoiliswhen
theengineiscoolbeforeithasbeenstartedforthe
day.Ifithasalreadybeenrun,allowtheoiltodrain
backdowntothesumpforatleast10minutesbefore
checking.IftheoillevelisatorbelowtheAddmark
onthedipstick,addoiltobringtheoilleveltotheFull
mark.Donotoverll.Iftheoillevelisbetweenthe
FullandAddmarks,nooiladditionisrequired.
Important:Besuretokeeptheengineoillevel
betweentheupperandlowerlimitsontheoil
gauge.Enginefailuremayoccurasaresultof
overllingorunderllingtheengineoil.
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface.
2.Removethedipstickandwipeitwithacleanrag
(Figure25).
Important:Makesurethatthedipstick
isremovedwhilellingtheenginewith
oil.Whenaddingengineoilorllingoil,
theremustbeclearancebetweentheoilll
deviceandtheoilllholeinthevalvecover
asshowninFigure24.Thisclearanceis
necessarytopermitventingwhenlling,
