Ifthedeectionisnot10mm(3/8inch),loosenthe
alternator-mountingbolts(Figure100).
Note:Increaseordecreasethealternator-belt
tensionandtightenthebolts.Checkthedeectionof
thebeltagaintoensurethatthetensioniscorrect.

ft-lb)isappliedonthebeltmidwaybetweenthe
pulleys.
2.Ifthedeectionisnot10mm(3/8inch),loosen
theidlerpulleymountingbolt(Figure100).
Note:Increaseordecreasethecompressor-belt
tensionandtightenthebolt.Checkthedeection
ofthebeltagaintoensurethatthetensionis
correct.

ServiceInterval:Aftertherst10hours
Every50hours
Whenproperlytensioned,theinsidemeasurement
oftheextensionspring(hooktohook)shouldbe
approximately8.3to9.5cm(3-1/4to3-3/4inches).
Oncethecorrectspringtensionisattained,adjustthe
stopbolt(carriagebolt)untilthereisapproximately2
to5mm(0.065to0.185inch)clearancebetweenthe
headoftheboltandtheidlerarm(Figure101).
Note:Ensurethatthebeltispositionedonthespring
sideofthebeltguide(Figure101).

Theblade-drivebelt,tensionedbythespring-loaded
idlerpulley,isverydurable.However,aftermany
hoursofuse,thebeltwillshowsignsofwear.Signsof
awornbeltare:squealingwhenthebeltisrotating,
bladesslippingwhencuttinggrass,frayededges,
burnmarks,andcracks.Replacethebeltifanyof
theseconditionsareevident.
1.Lowerthemowerdecktotheshopoor,remove
thebeltcoversfromthetopofthemowerdeck,
andsetthecoversaside.
2.Loosentheeyeboltallowingtheremovalofthe
extensionspring(Figure101).
3.Loosentheangenutsecuringthestopboltto
themountingtabandmovetheidlerpulleyaway
