5. Remove motor from the vise. Turn motor so thatthe
shaft end is facing down. Remove cap screws.
6. Separate rear cover from body. Lift rear cover from
motor.
7. Carefully remove body. Lift body straight up to re-
move. Make sure the rear wear plate remains on the
drive and idler gear shafts. Remove and discard O--
rings from the body. Locate and retrieve dowel pins.
IMPORTANT: Note position of the open and closed
side of the wearplates beforeremoving. Also,iden-
tify wear plates (front and rear) with a marker for
proper assembly.
IMPORTANT: Markthe relative positions ofthegear
teeth and the wear plates so they can be reassem-

8. Carefully remove rear wear plate, idler gear, drive
gear and front wear plate from the front flange.
9. Removeanddiscardback--upgasketsandpressure
seals from wear plates.
10.Turn front flange over, with seal side up.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to not damage the front
flange counter bore when removing the seals from
the front flange.
11.Carefully remove dust seals, retaining ring, flange

Discard seals.
Inspection
1. Remove any nicks and burrs from all parts with
emery cloth.
CAUTION
Use eye protection such as goggles when using
compressed air.
2. Clean all parts with solvent. Dry all parts with com-
pressed air.
3. Inspect drive gears and idler gears for the following
(Fig. 89):
A. Gear shaftsshouldbefreeofroughsurfaces and
excessivewearatbushingpointsandsealingareas.
Scoring, roughsurfaces or wear ongear shafts indi-
cates need for replacement.
B. Gear teeth should be free of excessive scoring
and wear. Any broken or nicked gear teeth must be
replaced.
C. Inspect gear face edge for sharpness. Sharp
edges of gears will mill into wear plates and, thus,
must be replaced.
4. Inspect wear plates for the following:
A. Bearingareasshouldnothaveexcessivewearor
scoring.
B. Face ofwearplatesthatare incontactwithgears
should be free of wear, roughness or scoring.
C. Thickness of wear plates should be equal.
5. Inspect front flange and rear cover for damage or
wear.
