Parking Brake Switch
The parking brake switch is a normally open proximity
switch. The parking brake switch is attached to the bot-
tom of the brake pedal (Fig. 16).
Whentheparkingbrakeisnotapplied,theparkingbrake
detent is positioned near the target end of the parking
brake switch sothe switch is closed. The parkingbrake
detentis movedaway fromthe switchwhen theparking
brake is applied causing the switch to open.
Adjustment
1. When the parking brake is not applied, the gap be-
tweenthe parking brakeswitch andthe tabonthepark-
ing brake detentshould be from 0.070”to 0.100” (1.8 to
2.5 mm).
2. If gap is incorrect, loosen jam nuts that secures
switchtobrakelever.Positionswitchwithjamnutstoal-
low correctgap between switchand detent tab.Tighten
jam nuts to secure adjustment. Jam nuts should be
torquedfrom162to198 in--lb (18.4 to 22.4 N--m).After
jam nuts are tightened, make sure that clearance be-
tweenheadofparkingbrakeswitchandtabonthepark-
ing brake detent has not changed.
3. Afteradjustmenttotheparkingbrakeswitch,usethe
DiagnosticDisplay (seeSpecialToolsinthis chapter)to
verify that parking brake switch and circuit wiring are
functioning correctly (see Parking Brake Switch in the
Component Testing section of this chapter).
