AssemblingtheWheelHubsandBearings
RefertoFigure48forthefollowingprocedure.
1.Assemblethewheelhubasfollows:
A.Ifthelugscrewswereremovedfromthewheelhub,pressthelugscrews
fullyintothehub.Ensurethatthelugscrewangeispressedfullyto
thehubsurface.
B.Ifthebearingcupswereremovedfromthewheelhub,presstheinner
andoutercupsintothewheelhubuntiltheyseatagainstthewheelhub
shoulder.
C.Fillthewheelhubapproximately50%fullofgrease.
D.Packbothbearingconeswithgrease.Installgreasedinnerbearingcone
intothecuponinboardsideofthewheelhub.
IMPORTANT
Theoilsealshouldbepressedinsothatitisushwiththeend
ofthewheelhub.Thelipoftheoilsealmustbetowardtheinner
bearing.
E.Lubricatetheinsideofnewoilsealandpressitintothewheelhub.
Note:Ensurethatyoudonotdamagetheoilsealinthewheelhub.
2.Installthewheelhubontotheaxlespindle.
3.Installgreasedouterbearingcone,spindlewasher,andnutontothespindle
shaft.
4.Whilerotatingthewheelhubbyhand,torquethenutto8.5to20.3N∙m(75
to180in-lb)toseatbearings.Loosenthenutuntilitisawayfromthespindle
washerandthewheelhubhasend-play.Finally,whilerotatingthewheel
hub,tightenthenutto1.7to2.3N∙m(15to20in-lb).
5.Installthenutretainerandanewcotterpintosecurethenut.Installthe
dustcap.
6.Installthewheelassembly;refertoInstallingtheWheel(page7–3).
