depth,thecoringheadcangetintoabouncing
rhythm.Thisisduetothehardpanthatthetinesare
attemptingtopenetrate.Correctthisconditionby
usingoneormoreofthefollowingrecommendations:
Youobtainthebestresultsafterarainorafter
wateringtheturfthepreviousday.
Reducethenumberoftinesperstomper
arm.Attempttomaintainasymmetricaltine
congurationtoevenlyloadthestomperarms.
Reduceaeratorpenetration(depthsetting)if
groundishardpacked.Cleanupcores,waterturf,
andaerateagainatadeeperpenetration.
Aeratingsoilbuiltontopofhardsubsoils(i.e.,
sand/soilcapplacedoverrockyground)cancause
undesiredholequality.Thisoccurswhentheaeration
depthisgreaterthanwhatthetinescanpenetrate
throughthesoilcapandthesubsoil.Whenthetines
contacthardsubsoil,theaeratormayliftandcause
thetopoftheholestobecomeelongated.Reducethe
aerationdepthsufcientlytoavoidpenetrationinto
thehardsubsoil.
Longer/LargerTines
25cm(10inches)orMore
Usinglonger/largertinescanleavethefrontorrearof
theholetuftedorslightlydeformed.
Holequalityforthiscongurationimprovesifyou
reducethecoringheadspeed10to15%from
fulloperatingspeed.ForPTOpoweredaerators,
reducetheenginespeeduntilthePTOspeedis
400to420rpm.
Note:Reducingtheenginespeeddoesnotaffect
theforwardspacing.

pushedholes;refertoAdjustingtheTineAngle

MultiRowAdapterHeads
Whenusingmulti-rowadapterheads,reducethe
enginespeeduntilthePTOspeedis400to420rpm.
Note:Reducingtheenginespeeddoesnotaffect
theforwardspacing.
RootZoneLifting
Usingmulti-tineheadsinconjunctionwithlarger
coringtinesorlargediametersolidtinescaninduce
signicantstressontherootzoneoftheturf.This
stresscanfracturetherootzoneandcausealifting
actiontotheturf.Ifliftingdamageoccurs,tryoneor
moreofthefollowing:
Reducetinedensity—removesomeofthetines
Decreasecoringdepth—in13mm(1/2inch)
increments(suggested)
Increaseforwardholespacing—change
transmissionofthetractionunituponegear
Decreasethetinediameter—solidorcoring
AdjustingtheTineAngle
(ModelsSR54,SR54-S,
SR70andSR70-S)
Setthetineangleaccordingtothetinelengthby
usingoneofthe2adjustmentholesinthelinkage
arm.Theseholesarepresetsonly.Whenusing17.8
mm(7inch)to25.4mm(10inch)tines,positionthe
headbumperclosesttotherearofthetinehead.You
mayneedtousetheotherposition—theholefarthest
fromthehead(Figure37)duetovariancesofsoil
conditions.
1.DisengagethePTOandengagetheparking
brake.
2.Shutofftheengineandremovethekeyfrom
ignitionswitch.
3.Releasethespringtensiontothetinehead
(Figure37).
