AccessingtheBattery
Removethebatterycoverasfollows:
1.Ensurethatthebattery-disconnectswitchisintheOff
position;refertoBattery-disconnectSwitch(page21).
2.Removetheboltthatsecuresthebatterycovertothe
ROPSplate(Figure55).
Note:Thebatterycoverislocatedbetweenthe
utility-tractioncontrolandtheleftfender.

3.Removethe3boltsthatsecurethebatterycoverto
theoperatorplatform,andremovethebatterycover
(Figure55).
Installthebatterycoverasfollows:
1.Aligntheholesinthemountingangesforthebattery
coverwiththeholesintheoperatorplatformaround
thebattery(Figure55).
2.SecurethebatterycovertotheROPSplatewithabolt
(Figure55).
3.Securethebatterycovertotheoperatorplatformwith
the3boltsthatyoupreviouslyremoved(Figure55).
ServicingtheBattery
WARNING
Exposuretobatteryacidorabatteryexplosioncan
causeseriouspersonalinjury.
Beforeyouserviceabattery,alwayswearface
protection,protectivegloves,andprotective
clothing.
WARNING
Abatterycontainssulfuricacid,whichcancause
seriousburns;andtheycanproduceexplosive
gases.
Avoidcontactwithskin,eyes,orclothing;ush
affectedareaswithwater.
Iftakeninternally,drinklargequantitiesofwater
ormilk.
Do not
inducevomiting.Seekmedical
attentionimmediately.
Keepsparks,ames,andlitcigarettesandcigars
awayfromthebattery.
Ventilatethebatterywhenyouarechargingitor
usingitinanenclosedarea.
Weareyeprotectionwhenworkingneara
battery.
Washyourhandsafterhandlingabattery.
Keepthebatteryoutofthereachofchildren.
WARNING
Afrozenbatterycanbeexplosive,causingpersonal
injurytoyouorothersinthearea,ifyoutryto
chargethebatteryortrytojumpstartthebattery
andruntheengine.
Topreventthebatteryelectrolytefromfreezing,
keepthebatteryfullycharged.
WARNING
Sparksoraamecancausehydrogengasina
batterytoexplode.
Whenyoudisconnectthebatterycables,always
disconnectthenegative(-)cablerst.
Whenyouconnectthebatterycables,always
connectthenegative(-)cablelast.
Donotshort-circuitthebatterypostswithametal
object.
Donotweld,grind,orsmokenearabattery.
Note:Theelectricalsysteminthismachineis12volts.
